Dolphin Signs Exclusive Agreement with Dimensional Imaging

Pact Allows the Two Companies to Create State-of-the-Art Digital Surface Visualization Tool

CHATSWORTH, CALIF. (May 4, 2006) -- Dolphin Imaging & Management Solutions, the world’s leading provider of high quality software solutions for dental specialty professionals, announced today that it has entered into a partnership with Dimensional Imaging, the leading international supplier of 3D surface imaging for medical applications.

The innovative technology developed by the two companies will be introduced this weekend at the 106th Annual Session of the American Association of Orthodontists being held May 5 though 9 in Las Vegas, NV.

Dolphin Imaging & Management Solutions and Dimensional Imaging are very enthusiastic about the benefits of Di3D™. This new product is a three-dimensional imaging system that will provide orthodontists and oral maxillofacial surgeons with high resolution, precise digital facial surface models designed for clinical examination, case presentation and academic research. Products produced under the partnership will be for sale in the United States and Canada.

“We are delighted to be joining forces with Dimensional Imaging. This new technology ushers in a new era of imaging applications for dental specialists,” said Chester H. Wang, director of Dolphin Imaging & Management Solutions. “Dimensional Imaging’s technology is simple and very practical, which produces data that reads seamlessly by our software, Dolphin 3D.

“Three dimensional facial surface models fulfill an urgent need for practitioners that are serious about facial aesthetics when treating patients. With this new technology, they can now easily analyze and track progress of the patient’s facial contours in all views — no longer restricted by merely static photographs. 3D facial models are also an important companion to the patient’s volumetric radiographs like cone beam computed tomography,” added Wang.

Di3D operates by employing four calibrated digital cameras instantly capturing two stereo pairs of images. Those images are then automatically processed by proprietary software to produce an accurate, high definition three-dimensional surface image.

Dolphin’s software displays the Di3D surface model, and can precisely measure, analyze and merge the patient’s cone beam CT data to provide even more insightful diagnostic information for the clinician. The patient’s 3D facial model is shown in high resolution with natural colors, depicting details in skin blemishes, hair texture, eyelashes and lip contour; even freckles are clearly visible.

“The Di3D technology will enable orthodontists and oral maxillofacial surgeons to analyze facial surface information previously unavailable to them,” noted Dr. Colin Urquhart, CEO of Dimensional Imaging. “In turn, by being able to obtain clearer delineations in distances, ratios, angles, areas, etc., on the facial surface, they will be able to assess treatment better and quicker.”

“Given our current society’s increasing demand for digital media and online communication, this technology also serves as a wonderful presentation method with patients and other clinical referrals. Patients love to see themselves in 3D!” Urquhart added.

Like all Dolphin products, Di3D will be backed by Dolphin’s round-the-clock technical support, including a toll-free number and email response. Additional information may be obtained through the Dolphin Imaging & Management Solutions website, www.dolphinimaging.com or by calling 800-546-7241.
