Chatsworth, CA, December 19, 2008 - Chester Wang, Dolphin managing director, was joined by Scott Anderson, president of Patterson Dental, at headquarters this morning to announce the formal acquisition of Dolphin by Patterson Dental. Accompanied by executive staff of each company, the two men explained to Dolphin’s worldwide employees and team members of how this new partnership will serve to benefit the customers of both companies. Following is a letter from Chester on what this means for the future of Dolphin.
Dear Dolphin Customer:
You might not have felt the earth move, but there has been a big event here: Dolphin has joined Patterson Dental.
For the past twenty years, my Dolphin teammates and I have been proud to consistently provide you with cutting edge software and services. With our conviction to do even better, we’ve decided to advance to the next plateau. We’ve elected to do this with Patterson Dental Supply, and its parent company, Patterson Companies, Inc., one of our nation’s most stable organizations with a very impressive 132 years (!) of history in dentistry.
With Patterson’s vast reach in the U.S. and Canada, we can deliver our exciting and innovative products in a more personal manner, and can provide additional tools to make your practice more efficient, profitable and enjoyable. In turn, Dolphin’s solid international reputation in orthodontics and oral surgery benefits Patterson Dental as they continue to develop their relationships outside of North America.
Dolphin’s day-to-day mission will remain the same. I will continue my post as Managing Director, and ALL of our key members will also continue their careers at Dolphin. We love Dolphin and have come to love this profession, and wouldn’t want to disassociate ourselves going forward.
In fact, our passion for Dolphin is why we teamed up with Patterson Dental. We searched for a like-minded, complementary organization, and in so many ways, we found those qualities with the Patterson organization.
As you may already know, Patterson Dental has a strong reputation in distributing high-quality equipment and supplies with a strong emphasis on providing great service. And it is the maker of EagleSoft®, the popular dental practice software. Patterson and Dolphin share many similar operating philosophies and work ethics. They also treat customers very well and they work very, very hard at it—just like we do. And they believe in a “flat organization” with minimum bureaucracy, which matches Dolphin’s family-like culture, thus allowing Dolphin to stay nimble.
I’m currently working closely with the President of Patterson Dental, Scott Anderson, to map out our shared future. Scott and I immediately agreed on our fundamental priorities: Customers and Employees. In addition, we have a joint commitment to supporting the future of dentistry as it embraces leading edge technologies.
