 CRITICAL WARNING IF YOU USE "SECOND COPY" UTILITY TO SYNCHRONIZE IMAGES BETWEEN MULTIPLE OFFICES.

This alert applies *ONLY* to Dolphin customers who use Centered Systems Second Copy Program as their synchronization management system.

We recently discovered that, under certain circumstances, a critical flaw in the Centered Systems Second Copy program can cause image files to be scrambled, such that you will see the wrong patients’ images, and even the wrong image views (such as a pano where there should be a front smile photo). The bug only occurs if multiple copies of Second Copy are running simultaneously. Dolphin customers should contact their own local tech, or whoever setup Second Copy for them, and do the following:

a. Switch to another synchronization system, such as Windows built-in XCOPY under a batch file;

OR

b. Make *absolutely* certain that only *one* instance of 2nd copy is installed, on one computer at their main office only, to run all their synchronization jobs. There should be *no* copies on any other computer.

As a side note, please be aware that synchronizing multiple mirrored working directories as a speed enhancer has certain limitations in general. For example, if two offices make conflicting image file changes to the same patient on the same day, the synchronization may overwrite one office’s image changes with the others. So this type of synchronization is best for offices that leave their photos and timepoints intact once they are captured.

As always, it’s CRUCIAL that you are performing daily backups on rotating media, along with periodic permanent off-site archives.
